Information R Bagram Index Afghanistan Index Asia

Some time ago I made several searches in the net for a possible address for (then 7000 kHz) Information Radio in Bagram, Afghanistan. On some web pages I found a possible routing address as APO AE 09354. Well, on June 10th a reception report using address "Information Radio, Bagram Air Base, APO AE 09354, USA" was sent. Today, 21st October I got my envelope returned, unopened. Numerous marks, some handwritten, some rubber stamped on it, some illegible. "Army Postal Service, APO AE 09098/Aug 12, 2003" "RTS" "ANK" "Returned for better address" "Return to sender" "Missent 180" "...Force Postal Service/5 Sep, 2003". Can't find out if the envelope ever actually reached Bagram. I guess I should have mentioned the Army unit operating the station. Well, better luck next time :). J.Savolainen-FIN CDX-ML Okt 03

At the same time I also sent a tentative reception report to Information Radio, Kandahar for my reception in Aug, 2002 on 6100. Still on it's way, maybe bouncing back within a few days. J.Savolainen-FIN CDX-ML Okt 03

R Balkh
Index Afghanistan Index Asia

Here in Afghanistan, I have been able to help a DXer from Finland get a verification for reception of Radio Balkh in Mazar-i-Sharif. Mauno Ritola heard Radio Balkh on 1584 kHz on the 4th October, 2002 at 1547 GMT. He sent me an audio-clip by e-mail and asked if I could identify the station. Quite fortuitously, a couple of weeks ago, the Manager of Radio Balkh happened to be in Kabul and visited my office. I played the clip and he immediately recognised the announcer and the anthem played at close of transmission. The manager, Mr. Abdul Rabe Jaheed, verified reception by writing a few words on a yellow Stick-It, which I have sent to Mauno. An unusual way to get a verie, but better than nothing! Radio Balkh broadcasts with 10KW, so it was a very good catch. M.Hadlow-NZL DXLD 3-029 Feb 03

Radio Afghanistan replied and verified by letter (17 AFS stamps issued in 1989 were on the envelope) after 2 months for my reception report on Norway 18940 kHz. Verification signer was Mr. Mir Amanullah Sharifi, Head of planning and Foreign Relations. He confirmed that the txion on 18940 kHz was over "one of the helper", and also that former 4774 kHz SW tx was completely destroyed in the war and now no SW tx in Afghanistan. The recent address is: Ministry of Information & Culture, General Presidency of Radio & TV, Planning & Foreign Relations Department, General Managing of Foreign Relations, P.O.Box 544, Kabul, Afghanistan. Note "P.O.Box 544, Kabul", which was used by "Voice of Shari'ah", and former "Radio Afghanistan", is still ALIVE ! T.Akabayashi-J BCDX 586 Aug 02
