650 KMTI, Manti, Utah, 3/19/07, 0200-0230 EDT (0600-0630 UTC). No more than a minute after the TOH, I heard the Morse Code and Sweep Tones go through several iterations for about ten minutes, with another set beginning at about 20 minutes after the hour. WSM proved to be quite a challenge, and using a directional loop antenna with my trusty but flaky Sony ICF-2010, I had to decide between maximum nulling of WSM or maximum gain on the KMTI signal. Since I didn't have a signal to tune into before the TOH, I chose maximum nulling, and the tones proved to be no problem, although I would give the SIO as 223 as I was not able to completely null WSM. Prior to the start of the test, I did hear a talking station several times that I was never able to identify. Also, received a QSL from Les Rayburn within 24 hours of my report. I got a verification back from KNOM- thanks for the motivation! I had doubted that I had enough information.... Sent the report to: KNOM, Ric Schmidt- GM, P.O. Box 988, Nome, Alaska 99762: Received a picture postcard with aerial photo of Nome. Preprinted back side with a few hand written notes and a thanks. It took 38 days, signed by "Ric". Used the postage I sent- 3- 37c stamps- on the P.C. The general manager - Ric's "bio" on the stations' website indicated that he lived in Albany, OR when he was younger, so I sent the report to him instead of the CE.
