QSL's from R St Helena's broadcast last year are finally dropping in. I received mine too. But I am wondering if we can still expect the St Helena award. Everyone having at least 3 QSL from them could order an Award for 5 US $. We had to send copies of those QSL's to Mr. Derek Richards, P.O. Box 24, Jamestown, St. Helena. St. Helena QSL Replies : Recently I was asked this question from a listener (by e-mail) who wanted to know why it took so long to get a reply from Saint Helena. The reason is the mode of transportation for the mail sent to this Island. Letters postmarked for St. Helena, travel to England. From there, the letters are took by vessel (HRMS St.Helena), which stops at Ascension, St. Helena and finally the Falkland Islands, then makes the return trip back to England, for more supplies. Return replies may vary from four months (the shortest) to as long as one year, it all depends when the mail is picked up by boat in England and sent along it's way. If by chance you don't get a reply, within eight to ten months, a follow-sent should be sent directed to the Station Manager Mr. Tony Leo. Address in the WRTVH or PWBR. Recently, I have received additional information about the status with St. Helena QSL's. As report by Nelson Oregon / NU-1602 / October 29th.2000. Mr. Tony Leo indicated they had a difficult in getting the cards printed on St. Helena, resulting the quality will not be as good. They hope within the next two months for all cards to be posted and together with any other requests. Further footnote, there will be no longer any more broadcasts form St. Helena on short-wave, no replacement transmitter. I hope that answers some that are wondering about their replies. [.]. "I must let you know that we are still in the process of working on the QSL Cards and with much hope they will reach you soon. We are not planning another R. Here is what I received today from Radio St. Helena: Dear Duane, We received your e-mail from Douglas Bennett concerning your QSL Card and take this opportunity in informing you that we are in the process of doing them and completing them soon. Many thanks for enquiring about them also. Radio St. Helena radio.sthelena@helanta.sh (via swl@qth.net) D.Fischer-USA DXLD 1-113 Aug 2001
On Apr 02, I telephoned Tony Leo, the station manager at Radio St. Helena regarding the QSL cards for the last special transmission on 23. October 1999. Tony regrets the huge delays in the processing of the reception reports and promised to verify the reports as quickly as possible. The reports have arrived and are all piled in his office. It is now just a matter of finding the people and the time to reply to all the letters. There is no need for SWL's to write again or call or send a FAX or email. The situation is under control, but the QSL cards will still take some time (a few months) to be written and sent out to SWL's. The best Internet pages for information about St. Helena are: www.news.co.sh and www.sthelena.se The information about Radio St. Helena on the web-site www.sthelena.se is interesting, but rather old, and this web server can not be reached a lot of the time. A notice about the delay in processing the reception reports can not be found on either web page. (via BCL via DX Window via Marie Lamb) R.Kipp-D Cumbre DX 394 Apr 2002

Trotzdem kam eine, was nochmals meine obige Aussage nochmals bekräftigt. Well, today a nice surprise: I also received the QSL from Radio St.Helena's final transmission of October 23rd, 1999. Enclosed there was a letter from Tony Leo, the station manager too. 11092.5, Radio St. Helena verified its final broadcast with its standard map card showing only time and frequency -- leaving out the vital date of transmission -- in 944 days from v/s Tony Leo. Included a two-page newssheet about the final broadcast event. Somewhat disappointing verification card after such a long wait. Must have run out of the good cards indicating "final transmission," hi! Nevertheless, these guys will be missed from the shortwave bands. It was always an exciting event happening but once a year. My card from Radio St. Helena was not numbered. I suspect that the "fun" part of this projected ended a long time ago and Tony Leo was just glad to finaly get all the verification cards out the door. E.Bergmann-D A-DX-ML Jul 2003

Following the Radio St. Helena final broadcast on 23rd Oct 1999 the station received 727 reception reports. Today May 5th, 2004 at Stuttgart Germany, I received air mail direct from St. Helena Media, postmarked April 23rd, 2004. Transported by the mail ship RMS St. Helena, arrived in Cape Town on April 30th, 2004. The envelope was save and complete content of QSL card no. 52 / 1999, and accompanied letters of present and former station managers Mr. Ralph H. Peters and covering letter of Mr. Tony Leo. All are much appreciated and my sincere thanks to the St. Helena Media staff, as well as Robert Kipp -- working with the Station Manager of Radio St. Helena -, who has helped tremendously to lessen the backlog of the 1999 QSL's. Hello, yesterday I was very happy to find a letter from St Helena in my mailbox! It contained two letters (one of them the farewell letter from Tony Leo in 1999) and the f/d QSL for the final broadcast. Thanks a lot to Radio St Helena and all who helped in organising the QSLs after such a long time!! The letter was marked "Jamestown, 23 April 2004" and arrived here in Germany on May 5, rather fast for such a remote place... Although the island has no airport, there is a blue "AIRMAIL" sticker on the envelope. Thanks again to St Helena, South Atlantic Ocean. It was so nice to listen to your programmes. And as you stated, maybe some fine day there will be another opportunity! :-) E.Bierwirth-D HCDX-ML Mai 2004

As I had expected, based on the recent DXplorer postings, today I received the very attractive QSL card and form letter from Laura Lawrence. I am pleased to receive this welcomed memento of last fall's special broadcast. One bit of information in the letter that I had not been aware of, although it probably is common knowledge to others, is that there apparently is another broadcaster on tiny St. Helena.
