| Hier kam Weihnachten und Neujahr gleichzeitig, nach ungemein langer Wartefrist verschickte NBC Port Moresby die gesammelten QSL-Karten der letzten zwei Jahre für die Frequenz 4890 kHz. Bei OM Eckhard Röscher dauerte es 762 Tage, bei Simon-Peter kam QSL nach ca. zweieinhalb Jahren, bei mir schon nach 510 Tagen. Rp war jeweils ein Dollar. Der Brief traegt das Datum vom 13.3.2003 und er kam am 8.3.2004 hier in LX an. Das macht ungefähr 1165 Tage. Aber ich habe mich umso mehr darüber gefreut, auch weil es mein 135. | Radio Bougainville 5985 QSL : Received a personal letter today from Aloysius Rumina, Provincial Programme Manager confirming my report of 13th September. He mentiones that 5985 is the daytime frequency but they are currently running it for increased coverage as the 3325 transmitter is faulty and being run on low power. Rumina (Provincial Prgm Mgr) who says they also have a 100 watt FM xmtr sited with the 5 kw SW xmtrs on Buka Island, which lies off the northern tip of the main island of Bougainville. The two islands are separated by a narrow strip of water a quarter mile wide. The name " Buka " came from the word the French explorer de Bougainville and members of his expedition hrd the natives utter, " Boka Boka, " meaning " Look there, " when they saw his ship. Mr. Nikis says "Some of the National Broadcasting Corporation stations in Papua New Guinea have not disappeared on air waves, but due to government funding these have put these stations to go off air. Here at Radio Bougainville we have encountered similar problems, but with the help of the NGO's and the help of the AusAid (Australian Aid Programme) we have been on air, and also our provincial government have help us with some funding to produce peace process programmes and awareness programmes as our people were at war with the government for ten years or so. At the moment we are at peace. Radio Bougainville has a bright future since we are at peace and we will continue to serve our local listeners and also overseas friends". | R. Central : Rcvd a ltr from Lahui Lovai, R. Central's Provincial Prgm Mgr, in response to a follow-up mailed in Nov 99. I had sent them a rpt with a cassette in June 99 for a tent. 1997 rcpn. He only rcvd the follow-up (no tape in the follow-up), but wrote : " Please find enclosed your verification card with details which I hope will satisfy your requirements. " I was saved from the painful decision of whether to count this as a QSL without Lahui hearing the tape--no QSL was enclosed with the ltr ! Also from the ltr : " Radio Central has contd. to remain off air since you last rcvd our rcpn due to lack of adequate funding from the Provincial Govt responsible for its operations. We will require funding within the vicinity of K130, 000.00 to re-activate our SW xmtr, air condition plant and to fully secure the building by erecting security fencing and secure windows. | R. Central : As a followup to the report in NU 1560, I called the stn and spoke with Lahui Lovai, the Provincial Prgm Mgr. He was surprised he forgot to enclose the QSL with his letter reply to me, but seemed willing to mail it without hearing the cassette. In a matter of seconds he whipped out a copy of my letter and read along with me. I told him I don't want a verification unless he can confirm the recording is of R. Central. Ten mins. into the talk he finally asked me why it was so important to have him verify the report. I gave him my standard " it's a hobby " answer, which he understood. I asked him about return postage and he said do NOT send $ 1 bills because the bank gives him a hard time exchanging small amounts such as that. IRCs were okay with him, but he said " I'll see if the post office will exchange them. " He agreed that mint stamps were the best bet. I also got the impression that he recently sent out a few replies to reception reports. | Radio Madang verified my reception report with $1 after 32 days by PFC and letter. QSL signer was Mr. Michael Samuga, Assistant Manager. According to Mr. Samuga, 10 kW shortwave transmitter site is located 10 km from the studio in the center of the town. They recently upgraded the communication cable between the studio and the transmitter from steel to fiber-optics, which improved the whole quality of the transmission. Address: P. O. She stated "...the frequency some how tripped up to 3350 kilohertz which was restored by our technicians, that is the time you picked us up. Unfortunately after a couple of days it tripped off again, which means we are off the air at the moment. The station does not have any technician as yet so we are awaiting one from Port Moresby to come and put the station back on. Similarly, we do broadcast on 90.6 FM that is also off the air 31/12/05 caused by lightning. We hope to get back on both shortwave and FM band shortly".
